Lyrics
Boot Straps
Wake up in the morning and I roll up out of bed
Pour myself some coffee try to clear my cloudy head
Get dressed with the lights off so I don’t wake her up
Try to steal a minutes peace before the sun comes up
It's a quarter after five when i make the factory gate
I’ve been coming early since i found out she was late
Got our hearts set on a child we aim to call him Seth
Try my best to hide the fact that I’m scared to death
There’s sometimes when I’m too tired to pray
But begging for charity never was my way
Pull myself up by my bootstraps again
And bring it on home, bring it on home
There’s a crooked picture hanging on a cardboard trailer wall
We were down in Pensacola two years ago this fall
The sand and the water and the sun upon her face
God it’s been so long since I’ve seen that smile in place
The single wide trailer sitting on her daddy’s land
Feels about as small as the diamond on her hand
I know in due time that we’ll reap what we’ve sown
Till then we’ll give thanks for the blessings we’ve outgrown
There’s sometimes when I’m too tired to pray
But begging for charity never was my way
Pull myself up by my bootstraps again
And bring it on home, bring it on home
